This song, first of all reminds me of Cafe Shooka and Agha Moghaddam! I don't even know if there's a cafe shooka anymore but the memories will always remain with me. I guess this was yarali pour-moghaddam's favorite song and somehow it matched with the mood of the cafe as well. Strange enough, whenever I went there this song was playing.
I think man is alone and is getting lonelier and lonelier by the second and that is what this song is about. Think we have better means of socializing and communication? Think again! In reality we are getting farther and farther away from eachother. We are praying the NEON GODS WE MADE. We made technology and now we are the slaves of this neon god... The song also appears on the movie The Graduate, Dustin Hoffman's first acclaimed act. The Graduate is about our beloved LA and the lack of communication between the people who live it! A classic that never dies...
Lyrics:
Hello darkness, my old friend,
I've come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
'Neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dare
Disturb the sound of silence.
'Fools' said I, 'You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you.'
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the sign said, 'The words of the prophets
are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls.'
And whisper'd in the sounds of silence.

This song reminds me of the only friend of mine when I was 3, he would were his black shirt, with his guitar, his beard n sandals, he would sit there n sing me this song... after all, i couldn't memorise it, so he's play BANG BANG which I knew by heart...
he was my lonely man with his darkness around,
one day he left, n vanished
